Thunderbird Totem Pole
This piece stands 7 feet tall, has a "wingspan" of 4 ½ feet, and weights about 70 pounds. I carved this item from a fallen maple tree, yellow pine for the wings, and oak for the snakehead. It is finished with oil-based stains, polyurethane, and acrylic paints. For indoor use, or on a porch. Will not withstand full exposure to weather.
This piece took me about 150 hours. The thunderbird was inspired by native American artwork of the Pacific Northwest region. Next the Lousanna Oakhead Maplesnake, and a skull inspired by some Grateful Dead memorabilia.
